Receiving God's Seed

I will begin with several passages of scripture from which we will inquire as to what God is telling us though His Word.

Acts 17:11

These (the Bereans) were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the Word with all readiness of mind and searched the Scriptures daily to see whether those things were so.

Galatians 3:16

Now to Abraham and his Seed were the promises made. He does not say, “And to seeds,” as of many, but only one, “And to your Seed,” who is Messiah.

Galatians 3:29

And if you are Messiah’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

Luke 8:5-8

A sower went out to sow his seed. And as he sowed, some fell by the wayside; and it was trampled down, and the birds of the air devoured it. 6 Some fell on rock; and as soon as it sprang up, it withered away because it lacked moisture. 7 And some fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up with it and choked it. 8 But others fell on good ground, sprang up, and yielded a crop a hundredfold.” When He had said these things He cried, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear!”

Is our heart ready soil to receive the Word of God, the good seed which is Messiah?

Let's examine the marriage covenant for a moment. God gave Adam and Eve the commandment to  “multiply”. If we look at the mechanics of this briefly, we understand that a wife receives the seed of her husband, and that seed, then brings life to her egg, without his seed, the egg would be shed from the body as death. If the woman were to receive seed from another man, she would be an unfaithful and adulterous woman.

With this in mind, we can begin to see parallels to what the Bible is telling us. Israel is described as being an adulterous nation. 

Hosea 4:15a

Though you, Israel, commit adultery

Jeremiah 3:8

I gave faithless Israel her certificate of divorce and sent her away because of all her adulteries.

Why did God divorce Israel? 

Because she was unfaithful. She was receiving a different seed than her husband. 

In the beginning, Satan took God’s word and changed it just slightly, just enough to make it not the truth anymore. It was a mixture of “good and evil”, a little truth mixed with lies. The Holy mixed with the profane.

When we receive a seed that is different than our husband’s seed, a seed that is a mixture of good and evil, of truth and lies, we are unfaithful to our husband. We are to receive the WHOLE Word (seed) of God, not adding to, or taking away, from His word.

Deuteronomy 4:2

Do not add to what I command you and do not subtract from it, but keep the commands of the Lord your God that I give you.

Deuteronomy 12:32

See that you do all I command you; do not add to it or take away from it.

When Satan came to Yeshua in the wilderness, he quoted from scripture, but he twisted it by taking away, and adding to, the Word. Thus when we add to, or take away from the Word of God, we are twisting the truth, which is propagating the seed of the enemy and are committing adultery. In fact, over and over God warns about mixing seed.

Leviticus 19:19

Do not plant your field with two kinds of seed.

Why? Because it is likened unto adultery. It is planting soil with a “different seed”. It is interesting to note that lukewarm water is a mixture of hot and cold. Mixing the Holy with the profane we might say. 

There is only one good seed; it is the seed of faith sown by God. “Faith comes by hearing, hearing by the WORD of God (Romans 10:17). It is Yeshua Messiah, the Word made flesh (John 1:1) the seed of Abraham. Not Abraham’s physical seed, but the seed of faith.

It is also interesting to note that the one who tends a garden is called a “husbandman”. He is the one who tills the ground, sows the seed, waters the ground, prunes the vine, etc. We read in Matthew 13:25, “But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.” If we understand this in light of Paul’s comment in 1 Corinthians 3:9 “For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, you are God’s building.” the connection becomes obvious. If we are “God’s field”, when we receive a seed planted by the enemy, we are thus committing adultery. We are only to receive His seed, with readiness of mind, ready ground, just like the Bereans.

Let us be a faithful bride, washed and ready to receive our husbands seed with thanksgiving and joy. Rejoicing together in the WHOLE Word of God and putting into practice all that we hear from His Word. For it is written: 'Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.” Matthew 4:4
